Who’s the Hardest? Off-Road Duathlon
~~~Winter Edition~~~
***Fort Steilacoom Park***
Lakewood, WA
December 13th – 10:00 a.m.
Concept: To merge local endurance athletes (those who ride bikes, those who run, and those who do both) into an environment where running and riding are incorporated into a single race setting. This event is designed to be held during the off-season so it won’t interrupt with individual race calendars and/or structured training plans. It offers an opportunity to take a crack at a potentially new sport, and a chance to compete against a new set of faces. It provides for a refreshing opportunity to get off your bike trainers and treadmills. Don’t let the cold, wet, and windy weather intimidate you – come test your fitness and mental toughness. Let’s see how you stack up against endurance athletes from other disciplines across the Pacific Northwest.
Course: The course is designed so that the duration of each discipline (running/riding) is equally time-weighted (~ 1 to 1.5 hours/discipline) .
Running Course – Flat and twisty course on mostly dual and single-track trails. The terrain snakes through open fields and provides ample opportunity to view your competitors in action (see map for details). Approximately 3.6 miles per lap; 2 laps to complete course.
Mountain Biking Course – Designed to challenge fitness level rather than technical riding prowess. This is accomplished via terrain that incorporates a good amount of moderate climbing on single and dual track. A fun course that is not overly technical, but it will get your attention (see map for details). Approximately 3.8 miles per lap; 3 laps to complete course.
Registration: Please reserve your spot by emailing us at kjreinken@comcast. net. Registration forms and waivers will be filled out day of race only. The event is capped at 100 participants.
Race Entry Fee: $20/participant (w/military I.D. – $10/participant) collected day of race.
Categories:
Solo – Male / Female
Tandem (teammates race both legs together) – 2-Person Male / 2-Person Female / 2-Person Coed
Driving Directions & Parking: From I-5 take the South 74th (#129) Street exit and head west. After 3 or 4 miles the road veers left and turns into Custer Road. In about 1 mile take the free right turn onto 88th St. SW. The road then turns into Steilacoom Blvd. In about 1 mile turn left at the traffic light at 87th Ave SW and take an immediate right into the park. Follow paved road in park about 1/2 mile to the red barns.
