Summary of Reviews

We have read all expert and user reviews on the Eskute Star. In summary, this is what cyclists think.

10 reasons to buy

  • The Eskute Star features an above-average 960Wh battery.
  • Reviewers appreciate the accessibility of the low step-through frame.
  • Experts enjoy the smooth assistance and consistent increases in speed between pedal assist levels.
  • The hydraulic disc brakes work well in testing, but the 160mm rotors are small for a heavy e-bike.
  • The 50mm suspension fork has adjustable preload and lockout and provides good cushioning over bumps, say reviewers.
  • In testing, the CST 4" tires offer good traction on gravel, sand, and mud.
  • Reviewers enjoy the comfort of the grips and saddle.
  • The telescoping handlebars allow quick height adjustments.
  • The 3A charger reduces charging times compared to the usual 2A.
  • The Eskute Star comes with lights, fenders, a bell, a rear rack, and a USB charge port in the display.

12 reasons not to buy

  • The Star has a below-average payload capacity of 276lb.
  • Experts criticize the display for its poor visibility in sunlight, with one reviewer calling it the darkest screen they've seen.
  • At 74lb, the Eskute Star is very heavy for a folding e-bike. It's cumbersome to carry and difficult to transport, according to reviewers.
  • A reviewer finds the folding process difficult due to the stiff hinge and high weight.
  • The 22mph top speed exceeds Class 2 regulations but is slow for a Class 3 bike.
  • A tester reports noticeable resistance from the motor when pedaling with assistance turned off.
  • One reviewer describes the brake light as faint.
  • Despite a claimed height range of 5’2” to 6’2”, a 6’ reviewer feels cramped.
  • The motor and tires are loud, says one tester.
  • Eskute owners complain of electrical problems, particularly with batteries.
  • Buyers are unhappy with Eskute's customer support.
  • Eskute lists the Star's specs differently across the product webpage and user manual.

Bottom line

The Eskute Star is a step-through folding e-bike with a 500W motor, 960Wh battery, and fat tires. Experts praise the smooth assistance, stopping power, comfortable ride, and decent climbing ability. The bike has above-average battery capacity, though reviewers failed to test the range. The Star's high weight and stiff hinge mean "clumsy" folding, limiting its portability. Potential buyers should also consider Eskute's poorly regarded customer support and reports of battery problems with other models. Other complaints include a dim display, exaggerated height range, and loud operation. Overall, the Star fails to stand out in a competitive e-bike category.

Affordable, Long Range Step Through: Eskute Star

It’s a very comfortable e-bike to ride, particularly if you’re on the shorter side.

Eskute Star Folding Bafang E-Bike – Unboxing, Assembly, Test Ride, and Review

It’s kind of interesting that they made this a folding bike. When I think of folding bikes, I think of portability and lightness, and I don’t feel like this bike is very portable… it’s pretty heavy…
