Summary of Reviews

We have read all expert and user reviews on the Benno RemiDemi XL. In summary, this is what cyclists think.

9 reasons to buy

  • Benno's RemiDemi XL is available as a Class 1 (20mph) build with a 400Wh or 545Wh battery, or a Class 3 (28mph) build with a 545Wh battery.
  • Benno offers a wide range of cargo or passenger-carrying accessories. The bike also has capacity for a second battery that mounts under the rear rack.
  • The low 19.5” step-through makes mounting and dismounting easier when the bike is loaded.
  • A reviewer finds the Magura MT Thirty hydraulic disc brakes provide good stopping power.
  • Experts find it easy to maneuver the bike at low speeds and move away from a stop, thanks to the low center of gravity.
  • The RemiDemi XL's length of 76" is relatively compact for a cargo e-bike.
  • Riding the bike when it's loaded with cargo has minimal effect on its handling, according to a tester.
  • The RemiDemi XL comes with fenders, integrated lights, and a 130lb capacity rear rack.
  • Bosch's companion app allows users to customize riding modes, lock the bike, and track rides.

10 reasons not to buy

  • One expert complains that the bike lacks gearing for steep hills.
  • Shimano Altus/Sora components are below average at this price point.
  • Testers at the high end of the 5’1” to 6’2” height range feel cramped, citing the short reach.
  • Reviewers are disappointed by the basic display.
  • Benno says the bike weighs 65lb, but an expert weighs it at 88.2lb. This means a reduced 332lb payload capacity.
  • Testers find the RemiDemi XL shaky at high speeds and challenging to handle.
  • Reviewers complain the 75Nm Bosch Performance Line motor is underpowered, preferring the higher-torque Bosch motors for cargo hauling.
  • The RemiDemi XL is not approved to pull a trailer.
  • A tester finds the ride harsh, blaming the stiff aluminum frame and lack of suspension components.
  • A reviewer says the Velcro-attached rear wheel guards are rickety.

Bottom line

Benno's RemiDemi XL is a fat-tire cargo e-bike with a 75Nm Bosch motor. Buyers can choose between Class 1 (20mph) or Class 3 (28mph) builds. Experts praise the compact frame, easy mounting, powerful brakes, stable handling at low speeds, and varied accessory options. However, the basic LED display, below-average payload capacity, limited gearing, and slightly underpowered motor disappoint. Additionally, testers complain of shaky handling at high speeds. While reviews are limited, the RemiDemi XL appears to have too many flaws to be an attractive option in such a competitive e-bike category, especially at this price. Alternatives include Tern's GSD or Flyer's Via.

Benno RemiDemi XL

All in all, the RemiDemi XL is a solid performer…its well built, very smooth, the frame itself feels very rigid and stiff, but that’s not translated to the rider feel, those fat tires help make it ride very smooth.
