Summary of Reviews

We have read all expert and user reviews on the iGO Core Edge. In summary, this is what cyclists think.

9 reasons to buy

  • A tester praises the responsive pedal assist from the sensitive cadence sensor.
  • The Tektro hydraulic disc brakes demonstrate above-average stopping power in testing.
  • In a max pedal assist test, the 170lb reviewer covers 24.4 miles while averaging 17mph.
  • Out of all 500W e-bikes tested by one publication, the Core Edge is the third fastest climber using pedal assist.
  • A reviewer says the CST Rock Hawk 27.5” × 2.4” tires offer good grip off-road.
  • The 8-speed Shimano Altus drivetrain and Rapidfire shifter are above average at this price.
  • One tester enjoys the Core Edge’s stability over light off-road terrains.
  • The Core Edge has an integrated headlight, a USB port in the display, and bosses for a bottle cage, racks, and fenders.
  • This bike has an adjustable stem.

10 reasons not to buy

  • The weight of the hub motor in the rear is ill-suited to riding on proper mountain bike trails.
  • Many buyers receive damaged bikes due to poor packaging.
  • Both the “basic” suspension fork and the narrow gearing range are unfit for actual mountain biking.
  • Buyers warn that iGO’s customer support isn’t responsive.
  • The Core Edge is heavy for a bike marketed for off-roading.
  • The kickstand and headlight rattle on bumpy terrain, says a tester.
  • Reviewers and owners agree the Selle Royal saddle is uncomfortable.
  • With a height range of 5’5” to 6’2”, the Core Edge is off-limits to shorter riders.
  • A tester says the headlight is dim.
  • Experts consider the nine pedal assist levels excessive.

Bottom line

The iGO Core Edge is a hybrid e-bike with a 500W motor and 576Wh battery. The hill-climbing, range, and responsive assistance impress experts who praise the stability and comfortable geometry. The Tektro hydraulic brakes and CST tires perform well in testing. The major issue with this bike is that it’s marketed as an e-MTB, but the back-heavy hub motor, basic suspension, and narrow gearing contradict this. Some iGO buyers complain of receiving damaged bikes and unresponsive customer support. Reviews are limited, but the Core Edge seems a decent option for tackling dirt trails and gravel roads or as a comfortable urban runabout.

iGO Core Edge Electric Bike Review – 2024

It’s built in the image of an e-MTB with flat bars, front suspension, knobby tires, and a more aggressive frame. But its hub motor and more affordable componentry, among other things, cut its definition short of a full-fledged trail-ready e-MTB.
