8 reasons not to buy
- This saddle was notoriously uncomfortable, making one owner “numb down there”.
- Some owners shared photos of their Kempo’s components rusting at a rapid rate.
- A few buyers said that they received instructions for a different kind of bike.
- The moderately aggressive riding position didn’t suit some casual riders.
- Tires were weak, prone to punctures and hastily replaced by many owners.

Bottom line
The Kempo was generally received very well for a big-box bike. With an aluminum frame, modern hybrid geometry and an entry-level Shimano Tourney drivetrain, buyers felt that it was of similar quality to many department store bikes that cost a coupla hundred more. Don’t be mistaken, components were recognized as ‘mid-range’, but were usually reliable. There were come instances where troubles were encountered, but these issues could usually be addressed by paying to have the bike professionally tuned and assembled. A word to the wise; the Kempo appears to be identical to the Schwinn Circuit, which is sold for a significantly higher price. An acceptable budget buy for casual commuters.Expert Reviews
